How alcohol affects the human body

Alcohol is a substance that many human beings enjoy consuming. But, just like every substances in life, alcohol can be good and enjoyable to drink, or very dangerous if you drink too much of it in a longtime period. According to the article, “Alcohol and Your Health”, When you drink it, 20 percent is absorb in the stomach, 70 percent is absorb in the intestine, and 10 percent is goes out the body through breath and through urine. So every time you drink alcohol, 90 percent of it is absorbed in the body. But, what this substance does to the body exactly. After researching on the internet, I have found my answers. So right now, I’m about to explain what is the process of alcohol when it goes through the body.

When you drink alcohol, it reaches the stomach. It is break down by enzyme; according to the article, “Alcohol and Your Health”, enzyme reduces the amount of alcohol entering the blood by around 20 percent. They also say that, women produce fewer enzymes which explain why they become more intoxicated. But when it reaches the stomach, 20 percent of the alcohol is absorbs by the blood stream through the blood vessels. The rest of it goes on into the intestine and there also will be absorb into the blood stream. When you eat food, the stomach is required to have a lot of time to digest the food you consumed. But, alcohol doesn’t need anytime to digest, it is absorb pretty fast. Alcohol goes through the blood stream and is metabolized by the liver. Alcohol can affect the blood, the brain, the heart, the muscles, the kidneys, the liver, the lungs, the pancreas, the intestines and the stomach.

According to the article, “Blood Alcohol Information”, the liver can metabolize one drink of 12 ounce bottle of beer and one 4 ounce glass of wine. So the liver can’t handle more than that over a long period of time. If the person keep consuming more than what the liver can handle, alcohol can basically harm every part of his body. Alcohol affect the blood, according to the article, “Blood Alcohol Information”, alcohol abuse can cause several forms of anemia and blood clotting. These conditions can result to bleeding and bruising; if you keep assuming alcohol, it can affect the white blood cells and it makes the person more likely to become affected to a lot of deceases. Alcohol can also affect the brain; the article says that alcohol can affect several parts of the brain. Base on their article, they said that it destroys brain cells and as we all know, brain cells doesn’t generate. If a person keeps drinking for a long period of time, this person can have serious problems with his memory. I know for a fact this is true because when I drink, it is extremely hard for me to remember what happen the day before. Alcohol also affect the heart, alcohol can cause high blood pressure, heart disease and heart failure. If a person doesn’t stop their drinking habits, they can start having irregular heartbeats.

Believe it or not, alcohol can affect the joints and muscles. The article mentions that abuse alcohol can cause sharp pain and can make your muscles become weaker. Alcohol can affect your kidneys; if you keep drinking alcohol for a very longtime, it can cause kidney failure. Kidneys are supposed to regulate water, acid, and minerals in the body not alcohol. When alcohol gets into the mix, it can deregulate the functions of the kidneys. Liver can be affect by alcohol; alcohol can change the structure of the liver and can block blood flow. These types of conditions happen to a person who drinks way too much. People who drink a lot have a high percentage chance of getting pneumonia and lung collapse. This is another way alcohol can affect the body. Alcohol can reduce the amount of enzymes use to breakdown the food in the stomach. So it basically attacks the pancreas, because it produces the enzymes. Alcohol can also damage the cells in the intestine; by damaging those cells alcohol is pretty much blocking the absorption and breakdown of foods in the body. Finally, alcohol can affect the stomach. In the article, “Blood Alcohol Information”, they say that alcohol can irritate the stomach. I know this is also true because when I consume a lot of alcohol, I don’t feel good at all. I really feel like my stomach is just bothering me and I hate that.

I was also in charge of searching about how stress can affect the body. I got to start with the definition of stress. I tried to get the definition from dictionary.com but the definition didn’t match the definition from this article I found. So, I decided to interpret the definition from the article. According the article, “Stress And How To Manage It”, stress is a emotional and physical strain caused by the response to pressure from the outside world. Stress common reaction is tension, irritability, inability to concentrate; it also includes headache and a fast heartbeat. This is all according to the article.

What causes stress? Stress is caused by events and situations, usually unpleasant ones, such as marriage, school work, and etc. According to the article, “Stress And How To Manage It”, The top five most stressful jobs are: President of the United Sates, Firefighter, Senior corporate executive, Race car driver, and Taxi driver. The top five less least stressful jobs are: Medical records technician, Janitor, Forklift operator, Musical instrument repairer, and Florist.

How does stress affect the body? According to the article, “Stress And How To Manage It”, stress make us prepare for a “fight or flight.” Under that kind of stress, you will get strength and endurance, as your body produces stress hormones. They say your heart rate will speed up, blood flow will increase up to 400 percent, your muscle tension increases, and you will start breathing faster. Base on experience, and what I have witness, I believe stress can make you act crazy, mad, and worried. For example, I remember my aunty was to find an apt for her and her kids. She went to a lot of places and she couldn’t find one that lived up to her standards. I could tell that she was getting stress out and worried, just by the way she acted and the things she use to do. And I remembered, every time her kids would do something small, she would hit them numerous times; it looked like she was putting all her hunger and frustration on her kids. I knew the only reason why she acted like that is because she was stress out. Another example, I remembered after I graduated high school, I didn’t know where I was going to go to college. And I started to worry about if I was going to get accepted by school because time was running out; it was the end of July and I still didn’t know where I was going. Like I said before, I started to worry a lot, I spend a lot of time in thoughts, and I couldn’t sleep at night because I was so worried. So, overall I believe stress can make you worry, make you really mad or make you do things that you normally wouldn’t do.
